BAGUIO CITY - An alert 16-year-old boy’s heroic act saved the life of a 64-year-old heart attack victim in a Baguio City subdivision recently.

JC Sumbad was on his way to his school when he spotted an unconscious elderly man lying face down on a road in Dizon Subdivision.

Immediately, Sumbad alighted form the jeepney he was riding on to help the man.

Without hesitation he performed first aid and cardio-pulmonary resuscitation on the victim who was having a heart attack then.

The family of the victim readily acknowledged the heroism demonstrated by Sumbad in resuscitating a complete stranger.

“If not for JC, my father wouldn’t have made it. He is a true hero, said Victor Chua, the victim’s son.

According to Chua medical first responders informed them of Sumbad’s act.

First responders noted that performing cardio-pulmonary resuscitation saved the life of the victim who is a stroke survivor.

Chua said he offered Sumbad cash reward but the boy politely declined to accept it.

“He said kindness should become a norm in our society,” noted Chua.

Baguio City Mayor Benjamin Magalong was also all praises, citing the boy’s uncommon heroism.

“Your compassion and love for others is commendable and worth emulating. We hope that more youth will follow your lead,” Magalong said.
