Filipina actress Maris Racal is expected to take a trip to Berlin, Germany as the starrer in Project 8 Projects (P8P)'s entry ‘Sunshine' in the upcoming 75th Berlin International Film Festival, or Berlinale, that will be held next month.
Production company P8P proudly revealed their film's entry to compete in the prestigious international film fest through its Instagram page.
“We are proud to announce that SUNSHINE is an official selection at the 75th Edition of The Berlin International Festival under the Generation 14plus Competition!” the post exclaimed.
“‘SUNSHINE’ IS COMING TO BERLINALE!” it added.
The film company also noted that this feat will be the film’s European premiere.
“Stay tuned—SUNSHINE’s Berlinale screening dates will be announced soon!” it likewise announced.
'Sunshine” director Antoinette Jadaone shared that her film’s achievement is her first time to compete in one of the so-called 'Big 3' film festivals in the international scene.
“Received the news last (year). Kakagising ko lang, [medyo] na-teary eye (ako). See you in Berlin mga teh!” Jadaone excitedly disclosed even as she cited that they are currently working on the film’s Philippine premiere.
'Sunshine' had its movie premiere at the 2024 Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) in September the previous year. It was also screened at the Palm Springs International Film Fest in California under the World Cinema Now section earlier this month.
Aside from the international screenings, P8P's Berlinale entry also earned a nomination for Best Youth Film award at the 2024 Asia Pacific Screen Awards (APSA).
The film tells the story of a young woman whose budding career as a rhythmic gymnast on the national team was put on hold after she discovered that she was pregnant.
Other cast members include Jennica Garcia, Elijah Canlas, Xyriel Manabat and Meryll Soriano.
