DILIMAN, Quezon City — In an industry often focused on the glitz and glamor of storytelling, GMA Public Affairs is launching soon a new television series that marks a refreshing shift from Manila to a rustic provincial setting most would find in Ilonggo culture.
Premiering today, GMA Prime prides itself with producing this romantic comedy that not only promises entertainment but also celebrates the rich traditions, warmth and charm of our countrymen from Iloilo.
At the center of this groundbreaking series, youthful actress Jillian Ward plays the title role, ensuring once again a well-beloved character she has shown in her previous dramatic roles like "l'Ako't Ang Kamay na Pangarap',
This time, Ward embraces a dual role as Tata, a simple Ilongga from the province, and Venice, a glamorous actress in the city. The contrast between these characters allows Ward to explore her comedic chops while delving deep into the Ilonggo identity.
"The first thing I really noticed was the culture of the Ilonggo people. My mother's side is Ilonggo, and they are indeed very affectionate. They are super welcoming, great cooks, and as they say, if she's Ilongga, she's beautiful! Also, I learned in Iloilo that falling in love is truly wonderful," she enthused at the press conference for the upcoming series.
"The series is a chance (for me) to showcase the beauty and richness of Ilonggo culture, something rarely explored in mainstream media," she noted.
"What's important to me right now is that we represent the Ilonggo people. From what I know, this is the first show that truly represents Iloilo. For me, that's the most important thing," she shared to add.
So after two-and-a-half years of portraying emotionally heavy roles, Ward is now entering into the lighthearted and feel-good nature of a romantic comedy.
"This one is more about the thrill and lightheartedness. It's easygoing. What's important to me right now is that we can spread good vibes and represent the Ilonggo people," she explained in conclusion.
