American music icon Jack Jones dies at 86

American music icon Jack Jones died Tuesday (October 22) at a hospital in Rancho Mirage, California. He was 86.

Jones remained an idol to adoring Filipino fans who last saw him in a two-day musical concert in two Araneta Center venues in Quezon City.

A Grammy awardee who got a share of worldwide fame with the likes of Tom Jones, Englebert Humperdinck and Dionne Warwick, Jones was known for hit songs “The Love Boat”, “Lollipops and Roses”, “I Wish You Love” and “Wives and Lovers”.

In the Araneta Center gig in 2015, Jones was joined by Filipino singer-songwriter Jose Mari Chan and Asia’s Got Talent 3rd placer Gerphil Flores.

It was his third visit to the Philippines, the first two were made during his heydays in the 1960s.

Jones lost his battle to leukemia which afflicted him in 2022, a statement from his manager Milt Suchin revealed.

“Jack Jones passed away last night at 9:17 pm at Eisenhower Hospital after battling Leukemia for well over 2 years. He passed peacefully holding hands with his wife Eleonora and his beloved toy poodle - Ivy,” Suchin said in a statement.

The American singer rose to stardom in the 1960’s. He performed in the style of famous crooners Frank Sinatra and Tony Bennett.

Jones released more than 50 albums during an outstanding singing career.
