RIZAL MEMORIAL STADIUM, Manila — It turns out 2025 will be a extremely busy year for the country’s athletes as they will be deep into training in preparation of several international sports competitions that will give them a chance to pit their talents against the best on the world.
In a statement to the media, Philippine Olympic Committee (POC) president Abraham 'Bambol' Tolentino announced that the country’s national athletes are scheduled to campaign in Harbin in February and Chengdu in August and hence to Bahrain in October before moving on to Bangkok in December.
"It's a busy year marked with major international competitions," Tolentino disclosed after meeting with his new Executive Board in the first major POC function of the year in Makati City.
This year, Filipino athletes will get a chance to spearhead competion in the Ninth Asian Winter Games in Harbin, China, from February 7 to 14, and then to the 12th World Games in Chengdu, also in China, from August 7 to 17, afterwhich the Third Asian Youth Olympics Games will be held October 22 to 31 in Bahrain and the 33rd Southeast Asian Games hosted by Thailand in Chonburi and Songkhla from December 9 to 20.
"We're aiming to send as many capable and qualified athletes as possible to these games and we're targeting the best possible results," Tolentino enthused while stressing that the Harbin Games will be the springboard for the country's quest for its first Winter Olympics medal.
With the three international competition already scheduled, what could have a fourth—the Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games—was rescheduled for early 2026 by host Riyadh.
