Two additional members of the House of Representatives have joined Lakas-Christian Muslim Democrats (Lakas-CMD), the country’s largest political party, raising its total membership in the chamber to 110.
Speaker Ferdinand Martin G. Romualdez, president of Lakas-CMD, administered the oath to Reps. Jhong Ceniza of Davao de Oro’s 2nd District and Gerald Galang of Valenzuela’s 2nd District during a ceremony held today.
Also sworn in was Davao de Oro Governor Raul Mabanglo, increasing to 16 the number of incumbent provincial governors affiliated with Lakas-CMD.
Before joining the party, Rep. Ceniza and Gov. Mabanglo, along with Davao del Norte 1st District Rep. Oyo Uy, Cagayan de Oro 3rd District Rep. Jojo Lara, and Laak Mayor Mark Anthony Libuangan, took their oaths of office before Speaker Romualdez.
In welcoming the new members, Speaker Romualdez expressed appreciation for their decision to align with Lakas-CMD.
“Your decision to join us means that you share our collective aspiration and the goal of President Ferdinand ‘Bongbong’ Marcos Jr. to improve the lives of our constituents, our people in general,” he said.
“As we grow in numbers, we strengthen support in Congress in our communities for the President’s legislative agenda and Bagong Pilipinas vision and roadmap,” the House leader stated.
He added that the growing membership further strengthens the party’s presence in both Congress and local communities.
The addition of Reps. Ceniza and Galang follows the recent move of five other legislators to join Lakas-CMD: Leandro Leviste (Batangas, 1st District), Mauricio Domogan (Baguio City), John Tracy Cagas (Davao del Sur), Edwin Crusado (Cotabato, 1st District), and Reynaldo Salvacion (Marinduque).
Deputy Speaker and Quezon Rep. David “Jayjay” Suarez noted that Speaker Romualdez now commands a “supermajority” of at least 285 House members.
