President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. emphasized that he remains focused on addressing the country’s pressing concerns and has no intention of getting involved in Congress' handling of the impeachment complaint against Vice President Sara Duterte.
In the latest episode of his podcast aired Saturday, Marcos was asked about suggestions that the President could influence the outcome of the impeachment case.
“Siguro (Perhaps), if the president chooses to do that. I choose not to,” he said.
“I’m busy with the transport, with the rice, all of the different things that we are doing, nauubos ang oras ko doon. Wala naman akong papel sa impeachment (these consume my time. I have no role in the impeachment anyway),” he added, noting that the process is strictly between the House of Representatives and the Senate.
Malacañang Press Officer Claire Castro earlier affirmed that President Marcos has no intention of doing anything that could be seen as interfering in the proceedings against Duterte.
She said the President is instead prioritizing open dialogue on other urgent national matters.
Despite this, Castro urged the Senate to consider the potential economic consequences of further delays in the impeachment trial.
Her remarks came after the Makati Business Club called on the Senate to fulfill its constitutional responsibility by pushing through with the impeachment proceedings. The group warned that failure to uphold the rule of law could eventually erode investor confidence in the Philippines.
