The implementation of the Commission on Elections decision nullifying the registration of the Duterte Youth partylist has been put on hold.
Comelec Chair George Erwin Garcia said the implementation of the ruling ws deferred in view of the pending motion filed before the Supreme Court by the Duterte Youth.
The motion challenged the Comelec decision to suspend the proclamation of the partylist organization as winner in the recently-held partylist elections.
“Comelec will not yet move to implement the decision. There is a so-called period of finality of the decision. We will wait for developments at the Supreme court,” said Garcia.
However, Garcia expressed confidence that the High Court will uphold the poll body’s decision.
Results of the May 12 elections indicated that Duterte Youth is entitled to three seats in the House of Representatives.
However, the Comelec decided not to proclaim the partylist organization winner in view of a division ruling voiding the its registration as an accredited partylist organization.
Last week, the Comelec en banc upheld the decision.
