INTRAMUROS, Manila — In response to President Ferdinand 'Bongbong' Marcos Jr. (PBBM)'s call for the conservation of energy amid rising prices of fuel, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) is urging Metro Manilans to promote its 'walk-to-work' strategy under its urban mobility program.

Speaking at a media forum held at the Ristorante Roma of the historic Manila Hotel, MMDA general manager Nicolas 'Nick' Torre III rationalized that the strategy will not only help in saving fuel but will also cultivate a healthy and disciplined lifestyle among the citizenry.

"Kung malapit lang naman ang ating pupuntahan, mas makakabuti para sa atin na maglakad upang makapagtipid tayo at maging malakas ang ating katawan at kalusugan at the same time," the former Philippine National Police chief pointed out.

In addition to this straregy being pushed by the MMDA, GM Torre disclosed that they are initiating efforts to fast-track the utilization of waste-to-energy (WtE) technologies that would likewise help in conserving energy while supporting efficient waste management.

"We are coordinating with the Department of Energy (DoE) for a partnership with Meralco (Manila Electric Company) to initiate WtE projects and also to put up solar panels in strategic places around Metro Manila, gaya ng mga waiting area na loading and unloading zone ng mga public transportation," he cited.

He added that they will also be putting up charging station in these places so those using electric vehicles or hybrid automobiles can charge their batteries.
