The National Basketball Association has drafted as its second highest pick Dylan Harper, the second player of Filipino descent to be taken into the widely popular professional basketball league.
His mom, Maria Pizarro, became an instant celebrity as fans quickly adored her for raising two sons who are excellent basketball players like their dad, former LA Lakers Ron Harper.
Maria’s Filipina beauty was also an instant hit to the fans from Rutger’s and the San Antonio Spurs that drafted the Dylan.
This despite she and her sons, Ron Jr. of Portland and Dylan, appeared only for a brief ESPN interview after the new Spurs’s name was called on stage during NBA draft night.
“His flat out love for the game, his determination, hard work and humility, day in and day-out,” Maria said, describing how Dylan landed in the most prestigious basketball league in the world.
In social media, Dylan said: “I’m feelling everything, from crying to laughing to being happy.”
Maria and Ron Sr. have divorced, leaving the Fil-Am mom the task of taking care of the brothers.
Dylan, a guard, was the second Fil-Am to be drafted at number 2 in the first round.
Jalen Green, who was recently traded by the HOuston Rockets to Phoenix Suns, was the first.
Green, together with Canadian veteran forward Dillon Brooks, was part of the trade package that sent superstar Kevin Durant to Houston.
