SENATE, Pasay City — Senate President Francis 'Chiz' Escudero on Monday disclosed that he is eyeing reconvene the impeachment court and trial of Vice President 'Inday' Sara Duterte-Carpio on August 4, 2025.
Escudero, who sits as presiding officer of the impeachment court, clarified that this still has to be agreed upon by his fellow senators as notices have to be given both to the House prosecution and the camp of Duterte regarding the trial.
He likewise added that the House of Representatives still has to comply with the court’s order when it voted to return the articles of impeachment last June 10.
“Iyon iyong imumungkahi ko. Bakit iyong petsang iyon?
Hopefully, that one week period, iyong Kamara will be given time to comply with the orders of the Senate impeachment court dahil iyong pangalawang order hindi ba, dapat ang gumawa noon 20th House of Representatives, hindi iyong nagdaang House of Representatives. Kung hindi man nila ma-comply iyon pagdating ng August 4, eh 'di doon na lang namin pag-uusapan,” he added.
Meanwhile, Escudero shrugged off claims that the Senate is delaying the trial, stressing that it is not their job to rush it.
Escudero cited that the final date regarding the impeachment proceedings will be announced in the plenary.
