Security guard, 74, survives gunshot in the face

5/8/24, 5:24 AM

A 74-year-old security guard who was shot in the face during a shooting incident in Virginia, United States is making progress in her recovery.

Rosalind Ebelt was caught in the crossfire while working a shift that wasn't hers as part of a larger security company during the incident at Ward’s Road Waffle House in Lynchburg on April 21 around 3 a.m.

Recounting her ordeal with WSLS 10 News, Rosalind shared: "I was laying there on the hard tile floor, not fully understanding what was happening, but thinking it was very possible to die."

The bullet caused her to lose many teeth and her taste buds and left a hole in the roof of her mouth.

But even after she had been shot, she thought of the safety of others in the area.

"My concern when the whole fiasco was happening was 'How can I keep these people safe?'" she said.

Rosalind was rushed to the nearby hospital, where she spent six days in the intensive care unit.

Despite the severity of her injuries, she survived and is now on the path to recovery.

The main suspect in the incident, Omarian Fitch, is scheduled to appear in court this week.

Meanwhile, his alleged accomplice, Shantia Turpin, faces charges with a court date set for July.
