Government will extend legal assistance to the overseas Filipino worker arrested in Japan in connection with the murder of a middle-aged Japanese couple.
Department of Migrant Workers officer-in-charge Hans Leo Cacdac said close coordination is being conducted by his office with the Japanese government.
Cacdac did not identify the Filipino implicated in the twin murders although Japanese news agencies have previously named two OFWs as having been arrested as possible suspects.
“As we condole with the families of the deceased Japanese couple, we assure our kababayan and his family of our utmost assistance in close coordination with Ambassador Milen Garcia and the PHL Embassy in Tokyo,” Cacdac said.
Kyodo News reported that the Japan police probers have identified the OFW’s linked to the twin crimes as Hazel Ann Baguiza Morales and Bryan Jefferson Lising de la Cruz.
Based on the DMW statement, Morales may have already been cleared despite being picked up by the police after the discovery of the bodies.
Morales is reportedly the girlfriend of the victims’ son. She was taken in for questioning after CCTV footages showed her in the vicinity of the victims house of January 16.
The victims, Norihiro Takahashi and his wife, Kimie were found dead inside their residence in Tokyo’s Adachi Ward last week. Their bodies bore multiple stab woulds when found on the bathroom floor of their house.
Investigators noted that the 55-year-old Norihiro had defensive wounds indicating that he tried to repel his attackers.
