Octogenarian, son perish in Mandaluyong City blaze

An 80-year-old grandmother and her son were killed in a fire that gutted a residential area in Mandaluyong City on Friday (February 23).
Identities of the fatalities have yet to be revealed by arson investigators. Both are residents of Barangay Vergara where the fire took place.
The Bureau of Fire Protection disclosed that 119 families or 451 individuals were rendered homeless as a result of the incident.
They were temporary sheltered at the Isaac Lopez Integrated School and the barangay basketball covered court.
This is the second in two days that a senior citizen died during a fire.
On Wednesday (February 22), Ludivina Espiritu, 73 died when a fire destroyed her house in Purok 6, Barangay Calicanto, Batangas City.
The victims of the Mandaluyong fire were reportedly trapped inside their house when the fire broke out at around 11:33 pm on Friday.
The fire was placed under control around 2:06 the following day.
Arson probers believe that the fire was triggered by a gas lamp that accidentally tumbled.
