The Department of Health (DOH) is urging motorists to be more patient and vigilant on the road as vehicular accidents become more common during Holy Week
In a statement on Saturday, March 23, the department called on travelers to ensure their vehicles were well-maintained and checked regularly, especially before long trips, noting that thousands of individuals travel to provinces, tourist spots, and churches during the season.
The DOH also stressed that drivers should refrain from drinking alcohol before and during driving.
Motorists are also reminded to focus on the road and avoid distractions like using phones while driving.
"Obey traffic rules. Take short breaks at regular intervals during long drives, and drink clean water regularly," the DOH said. "Road accidents can be prevented!"
Meanwhile, hospitals nationwide will be placed under a Code White Alert from March 24 to 31 to ensure that medical personnel and staff are on standby to accept and treat incoming patients.
Code White Alert is usually declared during national events, holidays, or celebrations that can potentially cause mass casualty incidents or emergencies.
For urgent reports, the DOH Health Emergency Management Bureau can be reached via phone at 0917-8059756 or 0917-8619528.
