President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. pledged on Friday (March 22) that the government will ensure the return of ousted Negros Oriental 3rd District Rep. and designated terrorist Arnolfo Teves Jr. to face the charges against him.
Marcos expressed his appreciation for the collaborative efforts of Philippine law enforcement agencies and international partners that led to Teves's successful arrest in Timor-Leste.
He stated: “Rest assured that the government will take all necessary actions to bring him back to the country so he can face the charges filed against him.”
“I assure the Filipino people that we will spare no effort in ensuring that justice will prevail in this case,” Marcos added.
Marcos also conveyed his gratitude to all those involved in the operation for Teves’s arrest, commending their unwavering dedication to upholding peace and order.
Teves was apprehended at the Top Golf Driving Range and Bar in Dili, Timor-Leste, at 4 p.m. Thursday, as confirmed by the Department of Justice (DOJ) on the same day.
Teves faces multiple charges in connection with the killings of Negros Oriental Governor Roel Degamo and nine others in March 2023, as well as three others in 2019.
He is currently in the custody of the Timorese police, while his extradition to the Philippines is being arranged by Dili’s National Central Bureau (NCB), in coordination with the team from NCB-Manila and the Dili-Timor Leste Philippine Embassy.
