Marcos appoints country’s 30th PNP chief ; cites outgoing Acorda’s performance

4/1/24, 7:24 AM

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. appointed Police Major General Rommel Francisco Marbil as the new chief of the Philippine National Police, a few hours after designating Police Lt. Gen. Emmanuel Peralta as the police agency’s officer-in-charge.

Marbil’s appointment came a day after General Benjamin Acorda stepped down as PNP commander effective his retirement day on March 31, 2024.

Acorda was due to retire last December, 2023 but received an extension until March 31 on orders of Marcos. He was commended by the chief executive for “a job well done” while at the helm of the PNP.

Marcos congratulated Acorda for initiating the “Five Focused AGenda” which inspired PNP members to ensure honest law enforcement operations, enhanced information technology capabilities and stronger community relations.

A classmate of Acorda in the Philippine Military Academy Class of 1991, Marbil will take his oath as the 30th chief of the PNP.

Before this appointment, Marbil headed the Directorate for Comptrollership. He had also been assigned chief of the Eastern Visayas regional police and the PNP Highway Patrol Group.

The new PNP chief vowed to focus his command on enhancing professionalism and knowledge on police operations. He will also expand the PNP personnel’s bid to maintain peace and order and enhance public trust in the police force.

Meanwhile, Peralta will return to his previous assignment.
