Mandaue City’s 29,000 senior citizens to get PHP10K financial aid starting 2025

10/4/24, 3:28 AM

Mandaue City’s 29,000 senior citizens were jubilant at the launch of the Elderly Filipino Week on Tuesday (October 1), many lauding the city government for showing generosity in helping them.

The city government announced that beginning in 2025, seniors will be eligible to receive a financial assistance of P10,000.

According to Carlo Jesus Cotejo, Officer-in-Charge of the Office for Senior Citizens Affairs (OSCA), over 29,000 senior citizens are expected to benefit from the aid.

Lawyer August Lizer Malate, OSCA Supervising Officer, mentioned that a resolution concerning an Ordinance on Senior Citizens Welfare is currently under review by the City Council.

Once enacted, a designated committee will oversee the screening process for OSCA identification cards.

Malate emphasized that only senior citizen-voters officially residing in Mandaue City will be eligible for the financial assistance.

Quezon City’s 300,000 elderly residents have also received a similar good news from Mayor Joy Belmonte.

For the first time in years, the QC local government unit will send birthday gifts to all seniors in the form of grocery baskets.

In her EFW speech, Belmonte said she rejected the gifting of birthday cakes to seniors due to health concerns.

She opted for the distribution of grocery items to seniors, saying that the first batch of recipients are birthday celebrators for the month of October.
