Tinatayang aabot sa 350,000 Pilipino ang nanganganib ma-deport sa Estados Unidos sa tinaguriang "largest deportation program in US history" kasunod ng pagbabalik sa White House ni US President Donald Trump.

Sa panayam sa ANC, sinabi ni Philippine Ambassador to the US Jose Manuel Romualdez na kumikilos na ang embahada para matulungan ang libo-libong undocumented sa bansa.

Kabilang na rito ang programa para makatulong ang mas maraming legal experts sa mga apektado.

"There are certain rights that many will have and that's why we're asking many groups that have come forward from Filipino-American community that are prepared to give some good advice on how to proceed on taking a legal path for them. These are the people who would like to help," ani Romualdez.

"First and foremost, they would like to give them their rights so that they would have an idea of whether they can stay or have to look for a way to get a legal pass," dagdag niya.

Iminungkahi ng Trade Union Congress of the Philippines (TUCP) ang pagtatatag ng isang interagency body upang maisaayos ang pagtutulungan ng mga ahensya ng gobyerno, civil society, at mga organisasyong sa US para matulungan ang mga Pilipinong nanganganib ma-deport.

"The TUCP looks forward to working together with the Marcos administration to consolidate efforts with urgency and dispatch to ensure the just transition of our kababayan either as legal immigrants continuing to pursue the American Dream or as returning Filipinos with adequate viable opportunities back home to unlock the promise of 'Bagong Pilipinas,'" saad ni TUCP Vice President Luis Corral.

Sa inaugural address ni Trump, sinabi niyang kabilang sa kanyang mga prayoridad ang pagdeklara ng national emergency sa southern border ng bansa at pagpapauwi sa undocumented immigrants.

Noong unang termino ni Trump sa White House mula 2017 hanggang 2020, mahigit 3,500 Pilipino ang na-deport. #
