Nanawagan ang award-winning Hollywood actor at environmental advocate Leonardo DiCaprio kay President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. na makisangkot sa planong patigilin ang conservation efforts ng Masungi GeoReserve sa Baras, Rizal.

Inihayag ng Oscar winner na maaaring malagay sa panganib ang protected area kapag binawi na isang kasunduan noong 2017 sa pagitan ng Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) at Masungi Georeserve Foundation Inc. (MGFI) ukol sa pangangalaga sa nasabing lugar.

"Local communities fostered the development of the @masungigeoreserve, spurring efforts to restore this precious ecosystem. From these conservation initiatives, trees were able to grow taller, wildlife numbers slowly increased, and more locals became involved in protecting this ecosystem," sabi ng aktor sa Instagram, kalakip ang ilang litrato at videos ng Masungi.

Hindi naman nagtagal ay naglabas ng pahayag ang DENR kaugnay sa concern ng Hollywood actor upang manindigan na hindi valid ang naging kasunduan noong 2017 na naging posible dahil sa dating Secretary Gina Lopez.

"We appreciate the statements of concern for the Philippine environment from international celebrities who are distinguished in their respective fields. However, no one is exempt from the law," sabi ng kagawaran.

Ipinunto rin ng DENR na hindi valid ang ginagawang paniningil ng MGFI sa mga nais na bumisita sa Masungi GeoReserve.

Noong 2023, sinabi rin ng Department of Justice na hindi naaayon sa 1987 Constitution ang kasunduan ng DENR at MGFI noong 2017.
