Israel responds to Biden’s threat to withhold help harm continues on civilians

4/5/24, 1:37 PM

In an apparent reaction to US President Joe Biden’s ultimatum for Israel not to harm civilians in its war against the Hamas, the Israeli government has announced it is set to take measures in increasing the entry of humanitarian aid into the war-torn Gaza strip.

This developed as the Israeli military disclosed that it has dismissed two officers and reprimanded three others who were being blamed for the drone strikes that killed seven aid workers delivering food to civilians.

The office of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who is facing heavy international criticism for rising civilian death toll, has revealed that it is planning to reopen the Erez border crossing between Israel and North Gaza to allow the flow of aid.

The announcement came a few hours after Biden issued an ultimatum to Israe that there will be dire consequences of its failure to protect civilians and aid workers from harm.

Biden said future US support for the war waged by Israel against the Hamas will depend on its actions in protecting civilian lives.

Death toll has reportedly shot up to 33,000, most of them civilians. AT least 75,600 people have been wounded.

The Gaza Health Ministry claimed that at least two-thirds of the fatalities are women and children, although there is little way this report could be confirmed.

Adding to the crisis is the starvation faced by Gaza people who are currently being deprived of food due to Israel’s restrictions of egress and ingress.

Israelis launched the siege in Gaza in their bid to free hostages held by the Hamas after they attacked civilian villages in Israel on October 7, killing at least 1,200 people, mostly unarmed people.
