Four MSU bombers among nine terrorists killed in clashes with Army troops

1/27/24, 1:00 PM

Nine members of the Dawlah Islamiya terrorist group that has been linked to the bloody Mindanao State University bombing were killed in a series of armed confrontations with the military, the Philippine Army disclosed on Saturday (January 27)

In an official statement, PA spokesperson Lt. Col. Louie Dema-ala disclosed that the nine individuals were linked to the group responsible for the Mindanao State University - Marawi bombing on December 3, 2023.

Four of them were involved in the explosion at the gymnasium while a Catholic Mass was in progress.

"The Army troops were able to neutralize nine local terrorist members and recovered eight high-powered firearms,” Dema-ala reported.

The clashes occurred between heavily armed DI terrorists and the troops from the 3rd Scout Ranger Battalion in Barangay Taporug on Thursday and Friday, initiated by internal security operations.

Four soldiers sustained injuries in the encounters and were subsequently transported to the Amai Pakpak Medical Center in Marawi.

"Our thoughts and prayers are with the four soldiers who sustained injuries during the said operation," added Dema-ala.

Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) chief Gen. Romeo Brawner Jr. commended the Army troops for their successful operation, acknowledging their "precision and unwavering dedication" that brought justice for MSU victims, including over 50 individuals who were wounded.

"This operation sets a clear precedent: The AFP will not tolerate those who endanger the lives and well-being of our people. The remaining few will face our full force and unshakeable resolve in bringing every single responsible individual to account," stated Brawner in an official release.

He also appealed to those contemplating violence to reconsider their choices, emphasizing that the AFP remains an "indomitable force" committed to ensuring the safety of Filipinos.
