An elderly Filipino-American woman was killed on Thursday (October 17) when a tree fell on her as she was cleaning the grounds of an assisted living facility in the aftermath of Hurricare Milton that hit Florida last week.

Luisa Santos was celebrating her 73rd birthday and wanted the Tampa facility she owned to be cleaned when the tragic accident befell her.

Milton was a Category 3 hurricane that swept through Florida. It made a landfall a day before Santos was killed.

“She wanted to clear all the debris and evrything because we have residents walking around,” said Wendy Tantozo, daughter of the victim.

She recalled that her mother was also celebrating her birthday on the day she died and was happy that day.

Luisa settled in the US 20 years ago, coming from the Philippines. She reportedly worked as a nurse there.

The Fil-Am put up the adult care home in Tampa after her retirement.
