FDA warns on counterfeit Biogesic, 6 other OTC meds

Counterfeit versions of Biogesic and five other equally popular over-the-counter medicines are being distributed in the market, the Food and Drug Administration has warned the public.
In an advisory released Friday (May 31), the FDA said that other OTC drugs with counterfeit versions are the followingz;
- Kremil-S (Aluminum Hydroxide + Magnesium Hydroxide Simeticone)
- Alaxan FR (Ibuprofen + Paracetamol)
- Medicol Advance (Ibuprofen)
- Bioflu (Phenylephrine Hydrochloride + Chlophenamine Maleate + Paracetamol
- Tuseran Forte (Dextromethorphan + Hdrobromide + Phenylpropanolamine Hydrochloride _+ Paracetamol and
- Biogesic (Paracetamol)
The FDA urged all healthcare professionals and the general public to be careful in prescribing and purchasing the said OTC’s, saying that the availability of the counter drug products in the market pose potential danger or injury to consumers.
Consumers were also reminded to purchase their medicines only from FDA-licensed establishments.
According to the regulatory agency the public must check the product carefully, saying that lot number, capsule or tablet, knurling and print appearance of the bogus OTC medicines are not comparable with the standard features of the registered products.
The FDA also warned establishments and outlets against selling and/or dispensing of the counterfeit products.
