Danger heat classification still up in many localities -PAGASA

A number of areas in the country are registering dangerously hot temperatures but weather experts expect more high heat index days ahead.

Dagupan City in Pangasinan, Ambulong in Tanauan, Batangas; and Puerto Princesa and Aborlan in Palawan were among the localities that were expected to feel 44-degree Celsiius weather on the heat index on Wednesday (April 17).

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) announced that the highest heat index forecast indicated that six areas will experience 43-degree Celsius weather on the index.

These are Bacnotan, La Union; Sangley Point, Subic; Pili, Camarines Sur; Iloilo and Dumangas, Iloilo and Catarman, Norther Samar.

The 42 degree celsius heat index will be up in Aparri and Tuguegarao, Cagayan; Echague, Isabela, Cubi Point in Subic Bay,; Olongapo City in Zambales ; San Jose, Mindoro Occidental, Virac, casatanduanes and Tacloban City, Leyte.

Parts of Pasay City in Metro Manila and Quezon City were expected to feel 41-degree Celsius heat index and 40degree Celsius heat index, respectively.

PAGASA has warned that “danger” classification of heat index are within 42ºC to 51ºC.

The weather station also urged individuals having heat-related illnesses such as heat cramps or heat exhaustion must take precautionary measures.
