Ito ay napag-alaman habang nagpasya ang mga lider ng Kamara at Senado na magsagawa ng legislative inquiry sa sinasabing paglapastangan ng mga opisyal at may-ari ng resort sa Chocolate Hills na kilala sa buong mundo.

“The Captain’s Place Resort Development in Chocolate HIlls is not an accredited tourism establishment under the auspices of the Department of Tourism’s accreditation system, and there is no pending application for accreditatio for the same,” ayon sa pahayag ng DOT noong Huwebes (Marso 14).

Dagdag ng DOT:”We urge all parties involved, including government agencies, private sector entities and local communities, to work together towards sustainable and responsible tourism practices that uphol the integrity of our natural heritage.”

Inihain ni Senador Nancy Binay ang isang resolusyon na naglalayong imbestigahan ang konstruksyon ng Captains Place.

Sa Senate Resolutioin No. 967, sinabi ni Binay na responsibilidad ng Senado na tumulong na bigyang proteksyon at pangalagaan ang “natural, biological and physical diversities of environment, particularly on areas with biological unique features, to sustain human life and development.

“We understand the importance of development, but there should be boundaries,” sinabi ni Binay.

Inaasahang ipatatawag ng mga senador ang mga opisyal ng pamahalaan nasyonal at local, kasama ang mga taga-Department of Environment and Natural Resources, upang magpaliwanag sa tila kapabayaan nila.

Sa Kamara, nagpatawag ng imbestigasyon si Speaker Ferdinand Martin G. Romualdez sa pagpapatayo ng nasabing resort sa gitna ng deklarasyon ng gobyerno na ang lugar ay isang “protected area”.

Ang Chocolate HIlls ay nasa listahan rin ng UNESCO bilang World Heritage site.
