President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. has reappointed veteran journalist Jay Ruiz as acting Secretary of the Presidential Communications Office (PCO), Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin confirmed Tuesday (June 17) .

Bersamin said Ruiz’s appointment papers were issued on Monday , following the Commission on Appointments’ (CA) failure to confirm his previous ad interim appointment before Congress adjourned sine die on June 13.

The CA had initially scheduled deliberations on Ruiz’s appointment for June 3 but deferred due to time constraints. Despite this, Marcos instructed Ruiz to continue leading the PCO.

In a statement, Ruiz thanked the President for his continued trust.

“This fresh mandate is both an honor and a responsibility that deepens my commitment to serve, especially when effective communication is vital to the administration’s success,” he said.

Ruiz praised the President’s leadership and expressed his resolve to lead the PCO with “professionalism, integrity, and purpose.”

He also acknowledged the support of media organizations, emphasizing their shared commitment to responsible journalism and combating misinformation.

“Together, we will continue to be vital partners in the fight against fake news and in empowering Filipinos through honest, timely, and transparent communication,” he said.

Ruiz is the fourth PCO chief under Marcos. He follows Trixie Cruz-Angeles, Cheloy Garafil—who now leads the Manila Economic and Cultural Office—and Cesar Chavez.
