DETROIT CITY, Michigan - A Michigan native shot himself a day after allegedly running over an 80-year-old supporter of former President Donald Trump on Sunday (PH:July 22).
The octogenarian, whose identity was withheld, remained in critical condition in a local hospital for serious injuries suffered after being ran over by an ATV allegedly driven by the 22-year-old man.
The suspect was found dead at his house in Quincy Township, Michigan. A self-inflicted gunshot wound was the alleged cause of death.
Police from Hancock and deputies from Houghton County Sheriff’s Office were about to arrest him when they found his body.
Investigators said the attempt to kill the 80-year-old victim was politically motivated. He was among the three Trump supporters whose vehicles were vandalized the day he was bumped by the ATV.
All three victims have displayed Trump banners and law enforcement flags and stickers in their respective yards.
The same suspect who vandalized the Trump supporters' vehicles was the same person who drove an ATV that rammed through the yard and ran over the octogenarian.
The elderly victim was putting up a pro-Trump political sign in his front yard when attacked.
A day before the incidents, Trump held a political rally in Michigan.
