Negros Oriental as retirement haven wins international recognition

The provincial government of Negros Oriental moved to further strengthen the global appeal of the province as a retirement haven.
The provincial government has recently sealed a partnership with the Philippine Retirement Authority to promote the Special Resident Retirees Visa (SRRV) to lure foreign retiring foreign nationals and even Filipino citizens abroad to choose the island for long-term stay.
Negros Oriental’s appeal as a retirement venue was recently recognized by the Investopedia as one of the Top 4 Budget-Friendly Asian Destinations for Affordable Retirement Living.
The Department of Tourism lauded the recognition followed another tourism accolade naming Philippines as recipient of the 2025 TripZilla Excellence Award as Asia’s Best Retirement Destination.
The Investopedia reported cited Dumaguete as a walkable coastal town in Negros Island.
According to the DOT the fact that it is known as the “City of Gentle People” adds to the appeal of Dumaguete as a best retirement destination for senior citizens and other retirees.
Published in February, the Investopedia report also highlighted the city’s expanding community of expats, the lively university culture and affordable housing and dining choices.
Retirees will also enjoy the budget friendly attractions that Negros Oriental has to offer. Included in the package of retirement facilities are the improving local health care infrastructure.
