SAN AGUSTIN, Malabon City — Following the closure of the Navotas City sanitary landfill, Malabon City mayor Jeannie Sandoval announced that they have already secured a deal with private trash haulers in Rodriguez, Rizal to address a possible garbage crisis.
In announcing the deal, Sandoval reassured city residents that there is no need to worry about the collection of garbage as the city is looking at an alternative where it could dispose its trash.
“We anticipated its closure and were able to find a quick solution by closing a deal with the Rodriguez sanitary landfill in Rizal. We trust our private haulers to carry out the tasks,” she disclosed.
According to Malanon city administrator Alexander Rosete, Malabon has its own transfer station where garbage collected throughout the city is gathered before being hauled by trucks to the Rizal sanitary landfill.
“We want to make it clear that the new system will not add any additional cost to the city’s coffers, as it is part of the city government’s contract with the private haulers,” Rosete explained.
In conclusion, the two city officials appealed to their constituents to practice waste segregation and refrain from improper garbage disposal to avoid problem regarding sanitation, cleanliness and health and even flooding concerns.
