A Sunday evening Zumba session at a public plaza in Ormoc City ended in violence when a senior citizen stabbed another participant, reportedly out of jealousy.

The victim, identified only as Ruel, was taking part in the group exercise on August 17 when he was suddenly attacked. Police identified the suspect as “Fredo,” a retired member of the now-defunct Philippine Constabulary. Both men, who are in their 60s, were known to each other.

Witnesses told investigators that Fredo approached Ruel without warning and stabbed him in front of fellow dancers. Bystanders rushed the victim to a nearby hospital, where he remains under medical care.

Ormoc City police launched a hot pursuit operation and arrested the suspect a few hours later. He is now detained at Police Station 12 pending further investigation.

Initial findings suggest jealousy as the motive for the attack, with investigators saying the suspect allegedly suspected an affair between his wife and the victim.
