Senior citizen carrying PhP1.2-M undeclared cash stuffed in luggage held at NAIA

A senior citizen woman was held by Ninoy Aquino International Airport security personnel for concealing undeclared PhP1.2 million in cash in her luggage.

The passenger was going on a flight found for Hong Kong when x-ray operators of the Office of Transportation Security (OTS) detected the cash during a routine baggage inspection around 1 pm on Saturday (July 12).

The senior citizen’s identity was temporarily withheld pending further investigation. She came from Nueva Ecija.

Initial investigation indicated that bundles of what appeared to be paper bills were detected on X-Ray. Physical inspection carried out later confirmed the suspicions of airport security

The suspect was the second senior citizen in two months to be taken into law enforcement custody for carrying items violative of Philippine laws at the NAIA.

Late last month, a certain “alias Aida” was arrested after alert airport security personnel. She was found to be carrying two kilograms of suspected shabu or methamphetamine hydrochloride in her hand carry baggage.

The estimated street value of the illegal rug is PhP13.76 milliion.

Aida, 62, was bound for Bacolod City when arrested. She now faces charges of violation of provisions of Republic Act 9165 or the Dangerous Drugs Act.

The discovery of the drugs was made during the routine X-ray inspection of baggage's.
