Immigration authorities have arrested an alleged 67-year-old American fugitive who had been convicted of child sex offenses in his country.
Rendel Ryan Sy, chief of the Bureau of Immigration’s Fugitive Search Unit (FSU) identified the arrested foreigner as James Russel Munson.
Munson was nabbed during an immigration operation conducted in an undisclosed hotel along Roxas Blvd, Ermita on August 21.
Other details of the arrest were not revealed.
In a statement, Sy said Munson was taken into custody after being confirmed that he had been convicted for child sexual offenses.
This was learned from the Philippine Center on Transnational Crimes and US authorities.
Sy explained that under Philippine immigration laws, Munson is not eligible to enter or stay in the Philippines.
“Philippine Immigration laws prohibit the entry of foreign nationals previously convicted of a crime involving moral turpitude, which includes registered sex offenders,” the BI officer said.
The BI has intensified the campaign against sexual predators and foreign nationals considered a risk to public security especially to children.
Munson faces deportation and blacklisting as an undesirable alien.
