David Charlton, British founder of David’s Salon, has passed away at age 69.
Charlton’s demise was announced in the David Salon page on Tuesday.
."The whole family of David's Salon mourns the passing of our founder. His love and generosity will forever be remembered," the Facebook post said.
Charlton’s cause of death was not disclosed but people close to him said it was due to heart attack.
Laura Charlton, David’s daughter who serves as the creative director of David’s Salon, confirmed the sad news.
On Wednesday (October 30), the family and friends of David held necrological services in honor of Charlton’s memory at the Heritage Memorial Park in Taguig City.
The hairdressing community expressed its grief in the comments— they were his inspiration and a big part of their success.
L'Oréal Professionnel, a make-up brand, also paid tribute to his death on social media; he was a ‘visionary founder’ and his legacy will continue to inspire the world, they wrote and further added that he will be missed.
Born in 1955, England, David Charlton belonged to a family of hairdressers. At age 16, he was already working full time at his uncle’s hair salon. And in 1987, he first came to the Philippines as the manager of Rever Salon at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel, later taking ownership of the salon.
Two years later in 1989, Charlton built the very first David’s Salon in New Farmer’s Market in Cubao, Quezon City. According to the official website of the salon, he found the need to create an affordable yet high quality hair care for the public.
And after years of dedication, passion, and hardwork, David’s Salon became one of the biggest hair salon chains in the Philippines with over 200 branches all around the country— and the world. In 2008, a branch of David’s Salon opened in California while in 2010, another opened in Dubai.
Charlton’s impact reached beyond his business; he served as the official hairstylist for Binibining Pilipinas candidates and worked with Miss Universe 2015, Pia Wurtzbach.
David Charlton left a legacy that Filipinos will never forget— whether part of the hairdressing industry or not. His contributions helped shape the hairdressing industry, inspiring countless stylists and setting a high standard for excellence.
