A 64-year-old woman pulled out a gun then sat on a lawn chair in the middle of a Texas highway that was shut down for hours on Wednesday (June 25), it was reported.

The senior citizen, who had been described to have suffered mental illness, sparked a standoff for hours as she sat in the lawn chair for hours in the middle of Interstate 45 in Harris County.

She refused negotiations with law enforcement authorities and did not demand for anything.

However, the guntoting grandma surrendered later thus giving everybody concerned a huge relief.

Authorities said the incident ended peacefully and that no one was hurt, including the woman.

The Harris County Sheriff’s Office decided not to press charge.

“The good thing is someone’s mother and grandmother is coming home tonight,” said Maj. Cedric Collier of the sheriff’s office.

Investigation disclosed that the woman has had a history of mental illness.

Her daughter helped police negotiate for her surrender.

Initially, police had difficulty talking to her but crisis negotiators later succeeded in building rapport with the woman.
