Postmaster General Luis Carlos presented the stamp and commemorative cover to Enrile as President Bongbong Marcos Jr. paid tribute to the official for his contributions to the government service.

"Living to 100 years old is one of life’s greatest achievements and a milestone worth celebrating. We pay tribute to JPE whose political career has spanned over six decades," Carlos was quoted as saying in a press release on Sunday.

"His collective wisdom and experience is an inspiration to us all," he added.

Enrile has served in various high-ranking positions within the government. He began his political career in the 1960s, serving as a legal assistant to then-Senate President Ferdinand Marcos.

He later became involved in the administration of the late President Ferdinand Marcos Sr. and held several ministerial positions, including Minister of National Defense. Enrile played a crucial role in declaring martial law in 1972, which marked the beginning of a period of authoritarian rule under Marcos.

Despite his close ties to the Marcos regime, Enrile later became one of the key figures in the People Power Revolution of 1986, which ousted the dictator from the Presidential Palace.

Carlos said honoring Enrile with a personalized stamp and commemorative cover was based on Republic Act 1026 or the Centenarian Act of 2016, which honors and grants additional benefits and privileges to Filipino centenarians.

He said PHLPost has been coordinating with local government units to include in their program the issuance of personalized centenarian stamps to honor Filipinos who reached the age of 100.
