Have you ever stumbled upon some quirky online terms that made you confused? Well, brace yourself because if you're not up to speed, you might not pass the "vibe check" of your teenage grandkids during family reunions. Time to level up your vocab game, right?

Get ready to LOL your way through this piece while picking up some Gen Z lingo. Here's a rundown of the common terms you should know.

1. Afam
A (good-looking) foreigner around Manila, also referred to as tourists and expats
Example: He married an afam! Good for her.

2. Amacanna
Derived from the phrase "tama ka na" which means "stop, whatever it is you're doing." Also used to call out problematic or unruly behavior.

3. Awit
An expression used to convey hurt or disappointment.
Example: There's no lumpia left. Awit

4. Beige flag
A character trait that indicates that a partner or potential partner is boring. Also refers to people's behaviors or attitudes that are neither great nor terrible...or just strange.
Example: I don’t think Matt should be ruled out because of the beige flag, because we are all quirky.

5. Boujee
Derived from the word "bourgeois," it refers to someone who displays luxurious, high-class behavior.

6. Cancel culture
Refers to the mass withdrawal of support from public figures or celebrities who have said or done things that are not socially accepted today.

7. Cringe
A term used for someone who is extremely embarrassing or awkward.

8. Dasurb/Dasurv
A play on the word "deserved," meaning worthy of being treated in a particular way, typically of being given recognition or assistance.
Example: Congratulations on your promotion! Dazurv!

9. Dogshow
Making fun of someone or making a joke out of a situation. Also translates to "pagtripan"

10. Fr, fr
An abbreviation commonly used for "for real."

11. Mother is Mothering
An individual who shows up in dramatic or extraordinary style and is referred to as "mother" by her fans or admirers.
Example: Kathryn Bernardo asked her fans not to take sides regarding their breakup. She's a classy woman. The mother is mothering!

12. Nepo baby
Often used negatively to describe a person who didn’t earn success and only gets opportunities because of family connections or wealth.

13. Low-key
Refers to being subtle or keeping something on the down-low. Also used when you want to express your feelings about something, but don't feel too strongly about it or don't want to appear overly eager.

14. Main character
An individual who is always the center of attention for their desirable qualities — or wants to be the center of attention. Also refers to someone who is the subject of viral outrage on social media.

15. No cap
An expression used to emphasize that what you are saying is true (a variation of "TBH" or "to be honest")

16. Omsim
Derived from the Filipino expression "mismo," it is used as a response to indicate agreement with what was said.

17. Paladesisyon
An individual who tends to give unsolicited opinions or advice to others.
Example: Here comes your auntie who always comments on our lives. Paladesisyon 'yan, eh!

18. Quiet quitting
The act of reducing the effort devoted to one's job, such as by avoiding tasks not explicitly stated in the job description.

19. Rizz
A shortened form of the word "charisma," it is used to describe a person's style, charm, or attractiveness. Also refers to the ability to attract a romantic or sexual partner.
Example: Anong skincare routine mo? You have rizz!

20. Situationship
Refers to a romantic or sexual relationship that is not considered to be formal or established.

21. Stan
An obsessive fan of someone or something but not on a creepy level
Example: Michelle Dee is so talented. We have no choice but to stan!

22. Slay
To do something spectacularly well

23. Touch grass
Used to imply that someone spends too much time online and should go outside for once, away from screens and people, to have views or opinions grounded in reality.

24. Vibing
Describes a positive feeling that someone has about something or someone.

25. Yas, Kween
A compliment or a response to something or someone being fabulous #
