Disbarred for alleged gross misconduct as a lawyer, Presidential Adviser for Poverty Alleviation Lorenzo “Larry” Gadon on Tuesday (November 26) called on the Supreme Court to cancel Vice President Sara Duterte’s membership in the Philippine Bar for “spewing expletives” and threatening to kill President Ferdinand Marcos Jr..
In a letter addressed to SC magistrates led by Chief Justice Alexander G. Gesmundo, Gadon asked the High Tribunal to “initiate a Motu Propio” proceeding of disbarment against Duterte, citing her controversial declarations over an online press conference as justification.
He said Duterte hurled “numerous expletives” towards Marcos, the First Lady LIza Marcos and Speaker Martin Romualdez during the live press conference conducted through a zoom call.
“Even worse, Vice President Sara also issued a threat against President Marcos, Liza Araneta Marcos and Martin Romualdez,” said Gadon.
The former lawyer said: “She categorically and unequivocably stated that she has talked to someone whom he (sic) directed to kill the three of them if she herself is killed.”
Gadon explained that while the “intent has not been consummated” it nonetheless “constituted plan for murdering” the Marcos couple and their cousin, Romualdez.
“Such statements coming from the second highest offic ial of the land, seen and heard by millions of Filipinos are undoubtedly illegal, immoral and condemnable,” the Malacanang official said.
“As a lawyer herself, she should be disbarred,” Gadon stressed.
Gadon also drew a comparison between his disbarment and his proposal for the cancellation of Duterte’s license as a lawyer.
He noted that after serving a one-year suspension “motu propio”, he was disbarred by the SC and denied any chance for clemency.
According to him the reason behind his disbarment was the uploading of a “video against a liar reporter who was spreading lies against then candidate, now President BBM.”
The Marcos adviser pointed out that the SC reached the decision notwithstanding the dismissal by the Department of Justice of the libel case filed against him by the said reporter.
Further, he noted that the complainants failed to show a certification from cyber crime agencies that the scandalous video was uploaded by him.
Despite his fate, Gadon remained confident that the SC still uphold the
“principles of justice and apply the law against anyone.”
“With due respect, DISBAR Vice President Sara Now under the same motu propio principle,” said Gadon.
