PORT AREA, Manila — Now with its manual booking replaced by a new digitalized process for travelers, the Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) has recorded improved passenger influx while stabilizing terminal density to reach a high operational efficiency in several ports across the country.

This came following the pilot launch of PPA's Online Reservation Assistance System (ORAS) which took over the previous manual queuing used by PPA at three of its port management offices in Marinduque and Quezon (PMO MarQuez) and Batangas and the Port of Calapan.

Under the new digital booking process setup, travelers have found it easier as they are only required to secure slots online and present digital passes at helpdesks for verification.

According to PPA general manager Jay Santiago, internal analysis of PPA's performance data indicated that the system addressed logistical bottlenecks by regulating arrival patterns and reducing peak-period waiting times.
Moreover, the digitalized process also scheduled bookings, managed passenger density and minimized overcrowding more efficiently ang thus allowed local government units (LGUs) to coordinate traffic flow based on real-time arrival data.

During the pilot launch, PPA was able to manage over 2,000 social media inquiries and 100 media engagements and traveler feedback cited increased boarding certainty and more efficient gate entry compared to previous high-volume operations.

Currently, analysis of the data gathered also gave way for the basis of refining technical protocols and addressing public adjustment challenges.

“This is just the beginning. The positive response to ORAS shows that digital solutions can greatly improve the travel experience of our passengers,” Santiago pointed out.

“We will continue to develop and expand systems like this to make port travel more convenient, efficient and responsive to the needs of the public,” he added.

In ending, the Santiago asserted that
PPA will utilize stakeholder feedback to enhance system reliability and streamline future implementation phases.
