DILIMAN, Quezon City — Aiming to simplify the public's dealings with their respective local government unit (LGU), Department of Interior and Local Government secretary Juanito Victor 'Jonvic' Remulla Jr. has announced plans to streamline paperwork for local chief executives through digitalization by the middle of the year.

According to the Remulla, they have already initiated talks with the Commission on Audit (CoA) and the Civil Service Commission (CSC) to simplify the processing of documents in LGUs across the country.

“We (will) come up with a program (and) by June 30, 2025, the papers you sign for 15 hours a week, we will reduce to just one hour a week,” the secretary disclosed in a mix of English and Filipino.

“By digitalization, simplifying the forms, that’ll all be simplified into one hour a week,” he added.

In his first State of the Nation Address (SoNA), President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. had expressed his desire to push for the government to digitize services and make them more accessible to the public.

In agreement to the President's wishes, Remulla cited his experience when he was Cavite governor before becoming the DILG chief.

“You are the direct link to the people, you serve every day. Let’s make our life simpler and lead more effectively,” he conveyed to local chief executives (LCEs).
