More than ₱30-B released for pensions of military, uniformed personnel

MALACAÑAN, Manila — The Department of Budget and Management (DBM) has approved the release of ₱30.409 regular pension requirements of military and uniformed personnel (MUP) for the first quarter of the year that will be charged against the Pension and Gratuity Fund (PGF).

According the budget secretary Amenah 'Mina' Pangandaman, the largest share of the allotted amount, or ₱16.752 billion, was released to the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) General Headquarters Proper and the Philippine Veterans Affairs Office (PVAO) under the Department of National Defense (DND).
Pangandaman added that they have also

disbursed ₱13.297 billion to the attached agencies of the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG), including the Philippine National Police (PNP), Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) and National Police Commission (NPC).

Aside from these, the DBM likewise released ₱350.680 million for the pension of 2,836 retired uniformed personnel of the Department of Transportation (DOTr) - Philippine Coast Guard, and ₱8.530 million for the 34 pensioners under the National Mapping and Resource Information Authority (NAMRIA).

In the meantime, Pangandaman clarified that the releases for pensions of MUPs were based on the actual pension payrolls submitted by the concernef agencies as of December 31, 2024.

“For many MUP retirees and their families, pensions are a lifeline that ensure their daily needs are met, katulad po ng pambili ng gamot o pagkain (like funds for medicine or food),” she pointed out.
