ALTHOUGH she has only won one Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) title yet, Alexandra 'Alex' Eala is today's darling in the tennis court as she has consistently drawn crowds of supporters who want to see her in action against the best netters in the world.

And she hasn't failed her fans, playing grueling latches against the likes of Aryna Sabalenka of Belarys, Coco Gauff of the United States and Elena Rybakina of Kazakhstan.

In the latest update, Alex is at Number 45 in singles and No. 102 in doubles
in the WTA's world rankings. Her career-high rankings are No. 29 in singles and No. 99 in doubles.

Her career-high ranking in singles was achieved on March 16, 2026. She's also the highest-ranked Filipino in WTA Tour history. In doubles, her career-high ranking is No. 99, which she reached on February 9, 2026.¹
But some fans wonder why, despite her win over top-seed players, did her ranking drop?

The realities in tennis is that Alex's ranking dropped from 29 to 45 due to her poor performance in

the Miami Open.
In the tournament in Florida, she had to defend the 390 points she earned from her semifinal finish in the 2025 Miami Open, but she only gained 120 points from her Round of 16 finish this year. This resulted in a loss of 270 points, causing her ranking to slide down 16 spots.

Furthermore, her early exit in Miami, where she lost 6-0, 6-2 to Czech star Karolina Muchova, contributed significantly to her ranking drop. The WTA's rolling 52-week ranking system also played a role, as points earned from the same tournament the previous year are automatically removed once that event begins again.

This system meant Alex lost nearly 380 points from her semifinal run in Miami last year, which pulled her ranking down.

Under the WTA's 52-week ranking system, players lose the points they earned from the same event the previous year once the tournament gets underway again. In Alex's case, she shed roughly 380 points from last year's semifinal run, which wasn't fully offset by the 120 points she earned this year from reaching the Round of 16.

However, despite the 16-spot drop in the rankings due to her Miami Open exit, Eala's future prospects look promising as she is set to participate in the WTA 500 Linz Open in Austria from April 6 to 12. She's also expected to compete in the WTA 1000 Madrid Open in Spain, aiming to improve on her Round of 64 appearance in 2025.

We hope and pray that she'll be doing well in both tournaments. If she really wants this to happen, she must realize that consistency is the key for her to win a title. This is because thus factor will allow her to steadily climb the rankings and establish herself as a formidable opponent in professional tennis.

By consistently performing well, she can build momentum, gain confidence and prove that her current success isn't a one-time fluke. This can also attract better sponsorship deals, coaching and training opportunities that in all would ultimately help in her career advancement.

In a post, it is highlighted that "consistency is the name of the game" and we believe she'll soon prove this whenever she steps on the court to face her foe.

Meanwhile, amidst the ups and downs in her career, Alex has now amassed a huge amount in career earnings that have surpassed US$1.3 million (approximately PhP78.9 million), with a significant portion coming from her 2025 season.

Here's a breakdown of her earnings:
- Career Prize Money: US$1,363,685 (as of 2025)
- 2025 Earnings: US$907,777 (from 27 tournaments)
- Miami Open: US$332,160 (for reaching the semifinals)
- US Open: US$154,000 (for making the second round)
- Career Earnings before 2025: US$455,908
Finally, at only 20 years of age and still with a long way to go in tennis, fortune has not ceased blessing our country's pride financially. Her net worth is estimated to be around US$500,000 or more than PhP30.36 million. It's worth noting that these figures are subject to change and might not reflect her current earnings, as the last update was in 2025.
