The city government of Lapu-Lapu lost unspecified amount of money from a glib-tongued scammer who succeeded in misrepresenting himself to be an authorized representative of popular singers Yeng Constantino and TJ Monteverde.
Lapu-lapu City Mayor Junard Chan admitted that they have been defrauded of initial payment for the supposed performance of the two singer at the city fiesta on November 21.
Constantino, who heard of her supposed appearance in the Cebu locality, posted on Facebook that she was not aware of any schedule there. She informed her fans that she was still in the United States when her supposed performance was scheduled.
On October 18, Cornerstone Entertainment, official agent of the two artists, officially released a statement denying that it had commissioned anybody to represent the firm in Lapu-Lapu City.
It denied knowing one “Alpearl Tabiliran” with whom the local government had negotiated for the fiesta performers.
“His actions were unauthorized, and he did not obtain the consent of the artists,” said the Cornerstone statement.
In his Facebook account, Mayor Chan admitted that they were “deceived by someone who claimed to have connections with the managemernt”of Constantino and Monteverde.
He assured his constituents that legal action will be pursued against the alleged scammer.
