Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) Secretary Henry Aguda has endorsed a comprehensive new policy aimed at tackling online disinformation, cyber scams, and other growing digital threats.

The initiative, part of the forthcoming “Good Vibes sa Internet” campaign, seeks to create a safer, more trustworthy online environment by safeguarding the public from online abuse and harmful content, according to a recent press release.

“We must create a safer and more responsible cyberspace for every Filipino. We can no longer stand idly by as false information rerodes the trust that binds our nation,” Aguda said as he met with the executive committee of the Cybercrime Investigation and Coordinating Center.

The new policy builds upon the existing Cybercrime Prevention Act and introduces several key measures, including the formation of a multi-agency task force designed to rapidly counter the spread of online disinformation.

Aguda emphasized the importance of “digital bayanihan”—collaborative efforts involving the DICT, social media platforms, law enforcement agencies, and civil society—to detect and stop the spread of digital falsehoods.

In addition to fake news, the policy also addresses the growing threat of cyberterrorism. Under the proposed changes, certain cybercrimes will be reclassified as acts of cyberterrorism to reflect their severity and ongoing impact.

“This move aims to deter malicious actors, recognize cybercrimes as continuing offenses, and strengthen national security and publoic safety in today’s increasingly digital landscape,he stressed.

He affirmed that these initiatives are part of a broader government commitment to cultivating a digital environment that promotes meaningful engagement, defends the truth, and prioritizes the well-being of every Filipino online.
