The Israel-based tech firm Cyabra has revealed that a state-of-the-art network of bogus social media accounts was behind the proliferation of social media posts the defended former Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte after he was arrested and turned over to the International Criminal Court.

The Philippine Information Agency, a government agency, said that the tech firm noted that at least one third of pro-Duterte posts, mostly seen on the platform X (formerly Twitter) were fake.

The PIA report disclosed that the findings of the research were shared exclusively with the news agency Reuters.

A similar flurry of anti-Duterte tweets and other social media posts were also noted although Cyabra did not comment on these.

However, a study reportedly conducted by a news agency indicated that nearly half of the social media discussions about the upcoming elections have been triggered by fake accounts.

This is especially noted in the on-going exchange of accusations between the camps of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. and Duterte.

The Israel-based company firm uses artificial intelligence to identify fake accounts.

Cyabra aims to fight against disinformation and offers its AI technology to protect corporatioins and the public sector against fake profiles, damaging narratives and unwelcome AI contents.
