Valenzuela City launches free anti-pneumonia shots to senior citizens

2/12/24, 11:00 AM

Senior citizens will be recipients of the free anti-pneumonia vaccination in Valenzuela City starting Monday (February 12).

Mayor Wes Gatchalian has ordered the mass vaccination of Valenzuela residents above 60 years old although a first-come, first served policy will be observed in view of the limited vaccine supply.

Seniors may get the free pneumonia jab on Mondays thru Fridays from 9 am to 4 pm at the Social Hall of the Valenzuela City Hall.

The city government said elderly Valenzuela citizens should bring their senior citizen identification cards issued by the Office of Senior Citizens Affairs (OSCA) and if available, their pneumonia vaccine cards which are among the requirements for the free anti-pneumonia shots.

Those who have co-morbidity will have to bring medical clearance from their doctor and pneumonia

Senior citizens who are experiencing cough, fever, sore throat and other flue symptoms; have received pneumonia vaccine before or received it within five years will not be given the anti-pneumonia shots.

Also prohibited from being vaccinated are those who received the vaccine within the past two weeks or are currently taking anti-bacterials or steroids.

Aside from Valenzuela City, Quezon City is also giving free pneumonia vaccines to its senior citizens but also on a limited basis. There are at least 200,000 registered senior citizens in Quezon City.
