UST, DLSU suspend classes on EDSA anniversary

2/15/25, 7:30 AM

The University of Santo Tomas (UST) and De La Salle University (DLSU) have suspended classes on February 25 to commemorate the 39th anniversary of the EDSA People Power Revolution.

A memorandum from the UST Office of the Secretary-General encouraged Thomasians to participate in activities honoring the spirit of the uprising, which led to the downfall of the two-decade Marcos Sr. dictatorship.

"As we commemorate the EDSA People Power Revolution, we are reminded of the power of unity, courage, and peaceful action," the university said.

"Let us stand united and never forget that true power lies in the collective will of the people, and it is our responsibility to uphold the values of integrity, justice, and freedom for generations to come," it added.

Previously, DLSU announced that classes at all levels and work across all campuses would be suspended on February 25.

However, all campuses will remain open, with students, faculty, and staff encouraged to participate in activities marking the event as part of an alternative learning day.

"Although the government has declared this day as a special working holiday, it is our conviction that the LaSallian community should have the opportunity to reflect on the values and sacrifices that defined People Power," DLSU said.

"We encourage everyone to engage in initiatives that foster historical awareness and civic engagement both within and beyond the classroom," it added.

February 25 was officially declared a special working holiday through Proclamation No. 727.

This means it will be treated as an ordinary working day for employees, where the "no work, no pay" principle applies unless a company policy, collective bargaining agreement, or established practice states otherwise. #
