Quiboloy subpoenaed to appear in Senate hearing

2/19/24, 4:00 AM

Senate President Juan Miguel Zubiri has finally issued a subpoena for religious sect pastor Apollo Quiboloy for his mandatory appearance at Senate hearings on allegations of abuse levelled against him by members of the Kingdom of Jesus Christ which he founded.

Zubiri made good his promise to sign the subpoena a day after Senator Risa Hontiveros, chairperson of the Senate Committee on Women, Children, Family Relations and Gender Equality, publicly inquired about the status of the panel’s request for it.

The subpoena was addressed to the headquarters of the Kingdom of Jesus Christ, The Name Above Every Name Inc., on Phil-Japan Friendship Highway, Catitipan, Davao City.

Zubiri directed Quiboloy to testify under oath before the House panel on Monday (February 19) at 10 am. Venue of the hearing will be at the Sen. Padilla Room in the Senate building in Pasay City.

The Senate president signed the subpoena on the same day that the hearing was scheduled.

Reacting to the release of the subpoena, Hontiveros thanked Zubiri for prioritizing the complaints aired by several followers of Quiboloy’s sect.

“Hindi din po tayo papaya na sabihin sa mga victim-survivor na “=’Teka muna, meron tayong krisis pampulitika. Wait lang tayo kasi tatapusin pa ang mga ibang issues,” Hontiveros was quoted by the media.

Earlier, Zubiri cited the on-going political controversies as one reason for the delayed action on Hontiveros’ request for subpoena.
