Number of jobless Filipinos increased to 3.9% in March- PSA

Unemployment rate in the country rose to 3.9 percent in March, higher by .4 percent compared to February, the Philippine Statistics Authority disclosed on Wednesday (May 8).

In terms of numbers, the PSA said the percentages translated to two million Filipinos having no jobs or business t o take care of.

The March figure indicated that 200,000 more were unemployed for the month since February, which indicated 1.8 million jobless Filipinos.

The figures were the results of nationwide surveys conducted on 11,114 households in the country.

According to the PSA the increase in jobless rate occurred simultaneously with an increase in the number of the country’s labor force from 50.75 million to 51.5 million.

This translates to a labor force participate rate of 653 percent two months ago, higher than the 64.8 percent in February.

On job quality, the PSA said there was an improvement since underemployment rate dipped to 11 percent in March, from the 12.4 percent of the previous month.
