Malacañang issues warning vs manipulated video of PBBM

4/24/24, 4:52 AM

Malacañang on Tuesday (April 23) urged the public to reject as fake news a manipulated video falsely depicting President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. giving orders to the military against a specific country.

The Presidential Communications Office said the deep fake has been circulating on social media.

The video, altered using deepfake technology, should not be re-posted to prevent misleading the public.

The PCO clarified that the video, which has gained traction on a popular video streaming platform, is misleading.

According to the PCO, the manipulated audio attempts to create the impression that the President has instructed the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) to take action against a foreign country.

However, no such directive has been issued.

Deepfakes, the PCO explained, are a sophisticated form of digital manipulation that uses generative Artificial Intelligence (AI).

The PCO assured the public that it is actively combatting fake news, misinformation, disinformation, and malinformation through its Media and Information Literacy Campaign.

To address the proliferation of deepfakes and other generative AI content, the PCO is collaborating closely with relevant government agencies and private sector partners.

It urged the public to participate in the fight against fake news by being responsible social media users and remaining vigilant against manipulated digital content.

The PCO called on everyone to join efforts in promoting a more informed, resilient, and engaged citizenry in the digital realm.
